IHSS Caregiver Needed

Hiring immediately for two teens (ages 17 & 18) with severe autism.

Seeking patient, calm, reliable caregivers for in-home IHSS (In-Home Supportive Services) in Soquel, CA.

📌 About the Individuals

Draven (18) – moderate to severe autism

Ryker (17) – profoundly severe autism

Both require:

• 24/7 protective supervision

• Assistance with all activities of daily living

• Seizure monitoring (grand mal)

• Support during sensory overload

• High level of structure and calm communication

• Nonverbal / limited communication

• Safety monitoring during behaviors

📌 Primary Job Duties

You will help with:

• Protective supervision (constant awareness for safety)

• Self-injurious behaviors (head-banging, biting, hitting self) – redirection & safety support

• Behaviors that may cause injury to others – calm de-escalation, prevention, and safe distance protocols

• Seizure response and monitoring

• Preventing elopement / wandering

• Hygiene care: bathing, shaving, brushing teeth, wiping, incontinence care

• Medication given; prep done by parent

• Meal prep (simple meals, assisting with feeding as needed)

• Bed wetting clean-up and bedding changes

• Household support related to their care

• Calming routines (sensory breaks, deep pressure, quiet activities)

• Transport assist (walking to the car, transitions)

📌 Ideal Candidate

You do NOT need formal autism training — we will train you.

But you should be:

• Extremely patient, calm, and consistent

• Comfortable with self-injury behaviors and safe redirection

• Comfortable with agitation or behaviors that may cause injury to others

• Comfortable with seizure-trained environments

• Reliable and on time

• Able to follow routines

• Not easily overwhelmed by noise or movement

• Comfortable with lifting / supporting during care routines

• Willing to learn the boys’ communication cues

Experience is a plus: ABA, respite work, paraeducator, caregiver, CNA, psychology/Special Ed students, or anyone with special needs experience.

Paid through IHSS Santa Cruz County

(Current county rate applies — we can provide details)

Training and fingerprinting are covered by IHSS.
